The design brief was to build a house that responded to the beautiful site by framing its distinctive landscape and letting in as much natural light as possible. As such, I designed the home with a butterfly roof to bring in light from the northern and southern exposures. We also included a modified courtyard on the southern side of the house, which created a private outdoor living space that offered scenic views of the forest at the back of the site.

Based on our client’s wishes - it was clear throughout the entire process we will use only organic materials.

The bright clean walls in contrast to the light wood, plants and art make this place feel like “home”, not just a house.

On the southern side of the house, a modified courtyard serves as a private outdoor area. This feature provides a secluded space to enjoy views of the adjacent forest.

The home's design focuses on framing, and highlighting the woodland landscape and bringing in lots of natural light. These elements work together to create a living environment that responds to both the site and the clients' vision.

This residential project demonstrates how architectural design can effectively connect a home to its environment while meeting client’s design and living needs and wants.
